本を読んでいて、このところ抱いていてた直感と洞察を友人に打ち明ける。友人と話しているうちに、自分の洞察と直感が、思いの外鋭かったことに、曖昧な遣る瀬無さを憶える。
しかし、自分が成長したな、と思ったのは、その喪失感を自分に向けることができた、ことだ。時に私たちは、自分の味わう喪失感や失望を何か別のもののせいにしてしまいたくなる衝動に駆られてしまう。
それは私たちが「お気に入りのおもちゃを取られてしまった」ような錯覚に陥ってしまうからだ、と僕は思い直した。必要なものがある時に人は、その必要なものを探して歩く。僕はそんな単純な人の真理を脇に置いて、子供のように勝手に拗ねていただけだったのだ。
毎晩聞く音楽が決まったプレイリストに入っていて、無意識に聞き流しながら眠りにつくようにしている。普段はことさら考えて聞くこともない、もう何度も何度も聞き流してた歌詞がふと耳に入ってくるから、人間の意識の力は素晴らしいと驚嘆する。
言葉は、その意味そのものが先に来るのではなく、発した後に独りでに意味を纏う、と述べたモーリスブランショは偉大だと思う。
Lenny Kravitzの歌に、”What goes around comes around”という歌がある。高校２年生の時、渋谷陽一のMusic Squareを聞いていた時に流れてきた曲で、とても気に入っていて、四半世紀以上たった今も、寝る前に必ず聞くようにしている。
what +V~の構文が入った文章で、高校生の時は今ひとつ意味がピンとこず、歌詞の意味がよくわからないまま聞き流していたが、意味のわからなかった言葉は、発せられた後に、新たな意味を帯びて、自分の耳から忍び込み、心の想いと交わり、収まる。
人を呪わば穴二つ、とはよく言ったもので、物事の二面性を念頭に置いて想いを整理していくと、自分の陥った無自覚の自己陶酔を諌めることができるというものだ。
自分の目の前にいる人に対して、僕は傲慢で怠惰な自分を許していた。おもちゃがなくなって駄々を捏ねる子供を演じるには、自分は物事を深く知りすぎてしまった。そのことをもう一度意識の上に置き、僕は自分の無自覚と甘さを恥じた。
自分は自分の道を進み、他人も他人の道を探し歩む。そんなことをぼんやりと考えた。
僕にできることは、目の前にいる人たちに対して責任を持って生きるということだけ。そんなことを考えた。
